The B.C. Buy Local campaign encourages consumers to shift at least 1% of their spending — just $15 — to a local business, or a local grown or local made product. If all consumers make a 1% shift, it will create 3,100 jobs and sends $94M in wages to workers in B.C. Check out more reasons to buy local.
Point Grey Village is a strong partner of B.C. Buy Local Week, with neighbourhood businesses using our posters and stickers to identify locally owned stores, local grown and local made products, and our poster to tell us how they support other local businesses.
In 2019 LOCO teamed up with Vancity and Point Grey Village to conduct a community campaign in the area. We worked with businesses in the area to do the stories, excerpted below. The full stories can be found here.
About Point Grey Village
Point Grey Village is the main commercial strip with shops and restaurants along West 10th Avenue between Tolmie Street and Discovery Street on Vancouver’s West Side. It’s the perfect destination to meet friends for coffee, to have a family dinner, or browse around in one-of-a-kind specialty shops. There are a number of different professional services to guarantee that local residents don’t need to go far for a medical appointment, a spa visit or to talk to a lawyer.
West Point Grey is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Vancouver. Many of the original homes and mansions still stand. Today, it is one of Canada’s most expensive residential areas, with the average home prices sitting above the $4 million mark. The area is known for two of the city’s popular beaches, Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks. Both beaches are great for watching the sunset and the mountains over English Bay. After you have visited one or more of the unique attractions or parks in the West Point Grey neighbourhood in Vancouver or the University of British Columbia, come to Point Grey Village for some shopping therapy, a delicious meal or a perfectly made espresso. Our businesses are waiting to serve you.
