Buy Local Kitimat | unceded territory of the Haisla Nation

Kitimat is a community of about 8,200 people located on the north coast of British Columbia. The community sits at the head of Douglas Channel next to Kitimat River. Indoor and outdoor recreation facilities and surrounding wilderness provide plenty of opportunity for an active, outdoor, coastal lifestyle.

The community was developed in the 1950s to serve the aluminum industry. Over the years, forestry and methanol industries also existed in Kitimat. In October 2018 the energy sector arrived when the decision was made by LNG Canada to develop a $40B LNG export facility here.  This project is the single largest private sector investment in Canadian history.

Kitimat is a welcoming and industry-friendly community situated at the head of the Douglas Channel. Kitimat has superior transportation connectivity, and the community is a preferred location to accommodate future industries, small businesses, and people looking to do business in BC and around the globe- just ask the industries that have set up shop.

Kitamaat Village is located near Kitimat and is home to about half of the 1700 Haisla Nation members.  The Haisla have occupied land in the area for thousands of years. We respectfully acknowledge that Kitimat is located on Haisla Nation traditional territory.

Buying local and supporting local business is a way of showing love and appreciation for Kitimat and our community and ensuring the healthy growth and success of our region.

The B.C. Buy Local campaign encourages a shift in spending towards locally owned businesses, and locally grown and locally made products. Whether you are a consumer or a business, a shift to local has a big impact by increasing the economic impact in spending up to 6 times. This increased recirculation in revenue within the province strengthens communities and the local economy by keeping profits local, creating employment, increasing sales to B.C. suppliers and supporting charitable giving from B.C. businesses. Check out more reasons to buy local.|
