Nana’s Little Town Play Cafe

We started Nana’s Little Town Play Cafe to help fill service gaps here in Kitimat. Our goal is to create a hub where people can hang out, enjoy coffee/food, and connect with others. We offer a variety of beverages, foods, and desserts, and we provide community social services.

Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?

Answer: We support local businesses and organizations in multiple ways. We purchase all of our food locally at No Frills and Save-On Foods. We provide space for local organizations to meet and host meetings, counsellors rent our space after hours to provide 1:1 services to clientele, and we partner with Janie Pelletier at Janie Pelletier Holistic Nutrition for wellness practices.

Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?

Answer: We are proud to purchase locally because it reduces environmental impact. By shortening transportation distances, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting more sustainable regional food systems.

I am also proud that our staff are trained in Trauma-Informed Practices, and are certified in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.

We offer community-focused programming like our “Nana’s Pantry”, which is a pay-it-forward program that allows folks to gift a food, drink, or play session to others. We will also be offering a program this summer called “Grow, Sip, Connect”. The program offers up to 2 hours of free admission to the play area, for the participants’ children, a free drink for the caregiver and kid/s, and a 1:1 session with a well-being practitioner each week for up to 4 weeks.
