YUM! Gourmet Donuts started as a home based business during the pandemic in New Westminster. Pastry chef, Kim Collishaw and partner John McMahon came up with the idea to make gourmet donuts, played around with different recipes, then started giving them out to friends for feedback.
A friend of a friend with a good following on social media came across their donuts and business began booming. By 2022 they had a proper storefront in Sappterton. They were drawn to the area because of the potential for growth in the area. They change their flavours every week, everything is made fresh daily and made from scratch!
Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: We try and use as much local produce as possible. We also support other small businesses in the area. We have created donuts named after other local businesses such as the Zesty Lemon and have welcomed new businesses in the area by posting about them on our social media encouraging our followers to go and support them. We have also allowed other small business to work out of our shop and sell their goods when they have been between spaces. Little Miss Coffee has worked out of our space for the last 3 months.
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: Socially, we have done winter clothing drives out of our store. We have also sponsored local athletes who were in financial difficulties and needed financial support to play.
Environmentally, we use all biodegradable packaging and we try and be as ‘zero-waste’ as possible.
