Mo’s General Store

Mo’s General Store is located at the corner of Lonsdale Ave and Esplanade Ave in North Vancouver. We are a community focussed and strive to be a partner to your life’s MOments. We proudly exhibit local artisans art and craft for sale to the public with sales going directly to the artisan’s. Mini Mo’s children and baby shop is nestled in the heart of Lower Lonsdale and tucked upstairs in Mo’s General Store offering a small, carefully curated selection of baby and child products. Female-owned and operated locally, Mo’s General Store prides itself on stocking our customer-favourite quality tested unique products in store. We are quick to respond to popular demand and personal requests while maintaining a full stock of household staples and gifts. Did we mention we have great (Moja) coffee and tasty treats! In the heart of North Vancouver’s first commercial block in a building that housed the areas first (McMillan) Grocers. We are about community, connection and providing a variety of products to you with the same quality that we would want to provide for our own families. In the heart of a very vibrant North Shore neighbourhood we strive to provide a convenient and reliable general store as well as a destination shopping experience.

Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?

Answer: Supporting local has always been one of the pillars of Mo’s ideologies. A vast selection of our merchandise is sourced from local creators and businesses. We carry everything from cards, grocery items and personal care all created close to home. Additionally, we have dedicated part of our store to local makers in the process of their start up. We proudly serve (locally roasted down the street) Moja Coffee, Blume superfood latte mixes, use BC milk products and supply Bad Dog Bread baked goods. We consistently comb our community to keep the store running by hiring local repair and service companies. Networking to promote each other in the local business community is how we flourish as a neighbourhood and we are constantly partnering with other businesses. We do our banking through the local credit union and our accountant lives up the street. Lastly, the owner of the store, Mithra Sawyer, has been on the Board of Directors of the Shipyards BIA for 5 years. This association devotes its time to assisting local businesses and creating a sense of togetherness with the community via organizing local events and highlighting everything great in the area through marketing.

Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?

Answer: One of the social practices we are most proud of at Mo’s General Store would be our employee environment. We prioritize a healthy and productive work environment, ensuring each of our staff is comfortable, listened to and well trained. We provide benefits for staff including a livable wage, team building activities, discounts on purchases from the store, complimentary drinks, seasonal bonuses and schedule flexibility. Furthermore, Mo’s contributes to charitable giving through fund raising and donation to North Van Arts Council, North Shore Rescue and The Gala of Grace. We also give to the community through many donations to schools and fund raising events.
