Sunshine Coast Olive Oil Co. is a gourmet food store specializing in Italian balsamic vinegars and olive oils sources from all over the world. We are located in Gibsons, B.C., on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation.
Visit our ocean-view, oil and balsamic taproom for a complimentary tasting experience in the European tradition. Our staff will guide you through a selection of award-winning agrumato-style olive oils, single estate ultra-premium extra virgin olive oils, rate density balsamic vinegars, and specialist oils such as Italian Truffle Oil.
We also carry gourmet specialty foods and accessories which change depending on the season: pestos, tapenades, fresh-dried pastas and sauces, olives, ethically sourced Tunisian olive wood, locally crafted artisanal pottery and hand-made olive oil soap.
Our motto is taste-before-you-buy, so visit our store in Gibsons Landing for complimentary tastings of our over 40 flavours. A presto!
Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: We are passionate about supporting local, artisanal food producers. We carry local products from Sunshine Coast-based brands such as Smokin’ Dragon, West Coast Nuts, Christopher Norman Chocolates, and Sunshine Mallow. We also partner with many of our local restaurants and food producers by offering exclusive wholesale pricing, including Brassica Gibsons, Lunitas Mexican Eatery, Mamma Musey’s Pierogi, The Shortcut, and more! For many years we have proudly participated in the Coast Cultural Alliance’s Purple Banner Art Tour, and we are currently featuring handmade pottery from Pam Horner.
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: We care deeply about sustainability and partner with the Canadian company, Earth Distributors, for all our single-serving sample cups. Unlike traditional cups that are made from non-renewable petroleum-based polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polypropylene (PP), our cold cups are made from Ingeo, a biodegradable and compostable plastic made from annually renewable corn. Not only is Ingeo derived from annually renewable corn, but it environmentally outperforms every major petroleum-based plastic. Manufacturing of the new Ingeo plastic emits 77% less CO2 and consumes 56% less energy than the equivalent weight of PET. Our Ingeo cold cups are also 100% biodegradable and compostable.
We are also proud to support the local community and arts by donating regularly to the Rotary Clubs of Gibsons and Sechelt, Sunshine Coast Youth Dance Association, and local high schools’ graduation fundraisers.
