Provisions Market + Gifts is a local specialty grocery and gift store located in Langley, BC that aims at enriching the well-being of the community with local love. Along with their other well-established business in Saskatchewan (SaskMade Marketplace), together they work with more than 500 local businesses in the food/retail chain across Canada. Their services include specialty grocery retail, local subscription boxes, gift baskets and corporate gifting. They are a 7 days a week farmers market and have online shopping available 24/7.
Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: More than 60% of our products are from BC and the rest are specialty food and artisanal products sourced from our neighbouring provinces. Our goal is to work with as many local businesses as possible and to foster a self-sufficient ecosystem for our community. We currently work with more than 150 BC local vendors and that number is growing every day. We truly believe that when you support local, your kind gestures and consideration is the real sunshine to our farmers, producers, makers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners like myself. The last couple of years have been extremely difficult for everyone, especially for businesses. After everything we have been through, we strongly believe shopping locally is more important than ever. When we shop local, our economy stays strong, and that is the only way we can sustain a better future.
All of our products are Canadian-made. We offer a local gift guide with a directory of local products, which can be ordered online or in-store, including favourite local products such as, Kindred Cultures, The Workshop Vegetarian Cafe, Mr Cooper’s Pies, Bucha Brew, One Organic Farm, and Stellar Eats.
We also offer several choices of gift baskets themed for a variety of preferences and occasions, from corporate giving, to a loved one’s birthday. Each gift basket is thoughtfully crafted, or if you are looking for something entirely different, you can browse our extensive selection of local products and customize your own!
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: We want to foster a sustainable community through a shared commitment to local. We build relationships with customers and cultivate partnerships with local makers and producers for our community so they can be confident and knowledgeable in supporting local. Our monthly community event is free to the public and we invite our vendors and makers to come to the store and share their stories and journeys. It is always a great gathering event that includes food, samples, knowledge, and good stories. We also hold community workshops that focus on skill building and community building on a regular basis. As for community involvement, we support various non-profit community organizations, such as junior basketball tournaments, donating to the homeless meal programs, school fundraisers etc. We also work with community hiring programs to train and work with challenged individuals. One of our core values at Provisions Market + Gifts is sustainability. Our strategy is to reduce, reuse, and recycle. You could see our practices in actions such as replacing plastic bags with paper bags, selling products in bulk (we have a bulk grocery section), as well as reusing shipping boxes etc.
