Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: Barakah Eats purchases the majority of its major ingredients from other local, independent vendors. This includes chicken from Rossdown Farms (Abbotsford), beef from Meadow Valley Meats (Pitt Meadows), and tomatoes from Windset Farms (Delta). We also purchase certain packaging from local vendors, such as BC Box (Surrey) and FoodPak (Richmond).
In addition, our distributor’s head office is in B.C, our bookkeeper and consultants are based locally and the majority of our repair and maintenance is performed by locally based companies.
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: We are proud of the charitable work we are doing with our local food bank and mosques in our area. We are working with Livlite, which is a local zero waste company. Our partnership with Livlite has allowed us to offer some of our products in a zero-waste format. We purchase from local suppliers whenever we can to support our local economy and reduce our carbon footprint. Also, we do not use any BPA packaging. We try to use minimal packaging (curry pouches). The flexible packaging used for our products uses less material and is light which makes it easy and efficient to transport. Our goal this year is to increase our plant-based offerings.
