iilo Creative Alliance is a values-based creative services agency dedicated to addressing environmental and social sustainability. iilo means “thread” in Spanish (spelled “hilo”) and is pronounced “ee-lo”. We’re inspired by the idea of interdependence and the threads that connect people to each other. Because we’re all connected.
Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: We hire local freelancers to work under our agency as an alliance and work to amplify Canadian companies, non-profits and social ventures.
We support a lot of local businesses through our own purchasing. Our daily business banking is with Vancity, and our savings and credit card is through Coastal Community Credit Union. Our lawyers are INK LLP and we use local businesses like Saul Good Gift Co and Earnest Ice Cream for gifts/recognition and Fairware for brand merchandise (swag). Our Edmonton team uses drop-in office space at Homestead Co-Working and in Nanaimo our favourite meeting spot is White Rabbit Coffee Co.
We have several collaborators we contract with, including KunStudios for web development, Jason Aune for systems and tech support, Hannah McCormick for social media marketing support. We like to keep it local – all of our contractors and staff are based in BC and Alberta.
Question: What social practices are you proud of?
Answer: We’re a certified B Corp, 1% for the planet member which means we donate 1% of sales annually to give back to local non-profit organizations and we donate regularly to LOCO BC. We’re also a Certified Living Wage Employer. We have 4 employees as of this year (2 owners and 2 part-time employees) which has been awesome to give someone else a steady job 🙂
