West Coast Inspired. Nature Derived. Camp Candle Co. is an Indigenous, women-owned business located in Maple Ridge, BC and graciously living and working on the unceded land of the Coast Salish, Kwikwetlem, səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Katzie, Kwantlen and Qayqayt Nations.
Camp Candle Co. is a proud maker of hand-poured artisan soy candles, gifts and home products. Our candles and melts are made with natural soy and coconut wax that is sustainably grown and harvested. Our products contain no parabens or phthalates and are blended with unique and proprietary fragrances inspired by the West Coast of British Columbia. We strive to use the cleanest burning ingredients, sourced from environmentally sustainable methods in order to protect your home, family and our environment. All of our products are ethical, sustainable and vegan and a portion of your purchase is used to aid in British Columbia reforestation with our every candle plants a tree initiative as well as various local non-profit agencies that focus on sustainability, environmentalism and youth leadership.
Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: Camp Candle Co. works collaboratively with many other local businesses and we try and source the majority of our raw materials from other local businesses where possible. Some local suppliers we work with are Voyageur Soap & Candle in Surrey BC and Lark Artisan Supply in Victoria BC. My products can also be found in some local stores including Coastal Collective in Pitt Meadows, Artisan Gifts & Flowers in Coquitlam, In•Blume in North Vancouver. We also pour custom candles for Spirit Bear Coffee Company.
We participate in a number of community events and farmers’ markets throughout the year and contribute product and monetary donations to community organizations and fundraisers in the local community with a focus on sustainability, environmentalism, Indigenous organizations and/or youth leadership. Farmers Markets we have participated in include Grow Local Society (Coquitlam and Port Moody), Fraser North Farmers Markets (Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Port Coquitlam), The Collective Markets, and Mango Market (Abbotsford).
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: We currently partner with a company called Veritree for our Every Candle Plants a Tree initiative. Every candle product purchased directly through Camp Candle Co. plants one tree in British Columbia, while every non-candle product purchased directly through Camp Candle Co. plants one sea kelp in British Columbia. Through Veritree, we are working towards a sustainable future by restoring critical landscapes which help the planet thrive. We were a sponsor of the Starfish Canada Top 25 Environmentalists under 25 program. We also provide product donations for Dan’s Legacy‘s yearly charity dinner.
