Since opening in 1983, Sprite Computers opened their doors – beginning in a small strip mall at the corner of King George Boulevard and 102nd avenue, Downtown Surrey. With their fast-growing business, they moved to a new and larger location in 1986 at the corner of King George Boulevard and 108th avenue.
The success of their business even took them to new heights where they successfully supplied all the computers used in the construction of both the Millennium line and the Canada line Skytrain Systems.
As the years have gone on, Sprite has been able to adapt to changes and consistently reimagine itself to better serve their client base, whether it be through upgrading into a new location or broadening their products and services.
As many workplaces moved into remote methods during the pandemic, Sprite functioned as an essential business by providing the necessary technical support for these transitions. Additionally, Sprite surged with gaming computer sales. Building about 10 gaming set-ups per week, this rise in demand may be attributed to how many individuals have been spending more time at home than usual.
Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: “As President of Sprite Computers and chair of the Downtown Surrey BIA, I take an active role in the community not only for DSBIA, but also for the Surrey Safety Committee, the Whalley Community Association, and the Burns Bog Conservation Foundation.” – Mike Nielson
We have been instrumental in getting the message out to shop local, and shop small! I go out of my way to support our great local merchants by both purchasing from them and recommending them to others in the area.
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: Today we continue to do our best to serve the community. Mike has made it a habit of visiting the Newton Senior Centre every couple of months to do “Tech Talks” —which are about helping seniors develop technological skills. Not only is this a great initiative, but it is also a testament to his expertise and knack for excellent customer service that is passed onto the rest of the team at Sprite.
As our neighbourhood continues to evolve, so do the needs of our clients. We continue to sell and support a large line of PC, Tablet and Notebook computers and have recently added cell phones and virtual reality. We have also integrated home theatre products and are offering full sales and installation of these cutting-edge products.
We are an environmental steward being part of the BC Recycles effort. We recycle old electronics at our location which avoid these items from going into our local landfill. We also have an intense recycling program in place for paper, boxes and all other recyclable items.
