The Quilted Bear The Quilted Bear is located in historic Ladner Village! Carol and her staff are known for their friendly and helpful service.  If you need help in choosing colours for your quilt, stuck on a pattern or if you just want a place to hang out, come see us! We encourage browsers.  Even if you don’t quilt come on in and see the samples we have around the store.  Who knows, you might get “the bug” too!

Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer:  We have an informal policy to buy from local companies – we always purchase from Canadian companies first. A lot of our inventory can’t be sourced here – for instance, fabrics and sewing machines aren’t produced here, but we buy from local suppliers when we can. We work with about 9 suppliers – about 50% of our inventory comes from Canadian or B.C.-based suppliers, and for what isn’t available from them, we buy from private companies based elsewhere. All of our support service agencies are local – accounting, legal, banking, IT, etc.

For other products like cleaning and office supplies, we buy about 80% from local companies – 30% B.C.-based and 50% Canadian and the rest from private companies elsewhere.

Question: What social practices are you proud of?

Answer: We only hire locally based employees – we’re based in Delta and all our staff are based in Delta. We hire specialized employees, and we provide additional local employee training.

We promote LOCAL quilt pattern designers, long arm quilters and quilt makers! All our quilt samples are made by local quilters and they are beautiful!!!

Question: What environmental practices are you proud of?

Answer: Our business creates almost no waste at all. We recycle all of the packaging we receive from our suppliers. All our fabric leftovers are either sold, donated to charity or recycled.
