Yumasoy is on a mission to change the meat-replacement game by making products with all-natural, whole food, real ingredients to make plant-based eating easy, simple, and delicious.
Yumasoy was founded by Gina Arsens after she and her family moved to a plant-based diet but struggled to find healthy protein sources. She partnered with chef and holistic nutritionist Steevi McNeely to develop products that were tasty, convenient, and wholesomely produced. Together, they offer you a truly yummy alternative. Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: We are locally owned, operated and produced here in Vancouver. We buy almost all our services from local businesses. Our boxes and our pouches are from local companies. Our pouches come from Foodpak, and our packaging is from The Printing House. Once our packaging is finalized we will be ordering from Great Little Box Co. We purchased our equipment through Foodpak and our production takes place out of Coho Commissary. We do deliveries in-house and have also worked with Good to Grow’s coaching and consulting services. We have started working with a few Vancouver influencers on Instagram, so our marketing dollars stay local. We are also collaborating with our retail vendor partners and other local businesses on a few promotions – for example, we are working with Fit in 30 in Vancouver on a giveaway.
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Our team is entirely local, and we are supporting youth training with our Digital Marketing Lead – hired with the support of a youth government hiring grant. We are a new business, so we haven’t done as much charitable giving as we’d like but we have plans to do more. We have donated product to the Cause We Care Foundation, who are working to break the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children. We plan to present an educational talk on nutrition for the mothers they work with and spread awareness throughout the community on the benefits of plant-based nutrition and the important connection to health.
Our product is 100% plant-based, so that has a huge environmental benefit compared to animal products. We focus on using clean, all recognizable ingredients and are proud to claim our products are chemical and preservative-free!
