Spain Gourmet Canada is a family company based in Vancouver that imports organic and gourmet food products from Spain. We are also distributors and agents for high quality products from Spain and Canada. We work with family companies and small organic and gourmet producers that create tasty food products with healthy benefits. We have carefully sourced products, by visiting all producers and facilities and formed relationships and partnerships. We want to increase the availability and affordability of high quality organic products on Canadian shelves with full trace-ability of all products.
Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: Most of our products are imported, but we support local suppliers where we can. About 20% of our products are from B.C. suppliers – Spanish inspired sauces from Bodega on Main, Gone Crackers, Sea Change Paté and more. We also buy from B.C. service providers whenever we can. About 90% of our services are from B.C.-based companies, like accounting, bookkeeping, banking, car sharing, coaching, distribution, transportation & logistics, recycling, compost & waste management services, repair & maintenance, IT services, etc.
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: Even though many of our olive oils are not made in Canada, we support local businesses in other places. For example, we are exclusive distributors for Spanish olive oil Olivar de Segura, the largest producing organic olive oil co-op in Spain, with a co-op of 12 mills and over 4500 family farmers that make up 30,000 hectares of olive groves in the sierra de Segura national park.
