Cafe Portrait serves up art with a side of coffee—what could be better? We provide something to eat and drink for every mood, and an art space to leave you inspired. Our family business is not just a coffee shop. It is a place where our guests read and write books, chat with one another about the arts and exchange cultural differences. It is a place which our guests visit to be inspired. As they step in through our door, they feel like they stepped into a cafe somewhere in Paris.

Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?

Answer: At Cafe Portrait, we try to work with other local companies as much as possible. From our coffee beans to baked goods, many of our kitchen ingredients are from other small local businesses like us. The reason behind that is not just to support our local economy, but also to create reliable partnerships and friendships and a community. When you buy from a local business, you support a network of local businesses. On the side note, local tastes much better. 

Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?

Answer: We welcome everyone from all walks of life at Cafe Portrait. Any ethnicity, gender, age, we train and add them into our small family. They become not just a co-worker, but a part of our life.  

There is a few things which we have done to reduce our environmental imprint. For example;

• Changing our old fridges with new, eco friendly ones
• Switching to dimmable switches
• Instead of paper towels, we have installed an air drier in our washroom
• The use of paper bags instead of plastic ones, and
• Having a BYO tumbler discount for take out drinks
