Ben’s Appliances is the longest-running single-family-owned appliance retail store in Downtown Surrey, serving the Lower Mainland.
Combining “mom & pop” customer service, great products, and their own installation, plus after-sale repair, they’re truly one of a kind. For 60 years, generations of families have called “Ben’s” their go-to appliance store in the area, flocking to one of the only independent appliance retailers in a sea of multinational box stores. “I think people enjoy shopping at our store because they know here, they will get a no BS experience that starts and ends with our company”, Matt Notting, 3rd generation owner of Ben’s explains.
At Ben’s we have put a lot of thought into how we can continue to support our clients the best way possible, even as we grow with the community around us.” This effort is evident in their approach to appliance sales, but more recently in their foray into Grills and Outdoor Kitchens. Focusing on products made with integrity and designed to last a lifetime, Ben’s is enjoying elevating their clients’ backyards to the next level. They also supply the community with the city’s best selection of BBQ Rubs & Sauces, Cast Iron Cookware, Laundry Detergent and even frozen grass-fed meat to accompany their grills!
Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: With such an assortment of products, we can work with local businesses, supporting them both directly and indirectly.
Directly, we work with local tradespeople who assist us with particular settings that might not be ready for appliances. For example, if a client needs to renovate or upgrade their space to install the appliance they have purchased, we have a network of businesses we use to help with these needs.
Also, we try to carry an assortment of local products, including our laundry detergent, which is manufactured locally in Port Moody.
Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: Firstly, promoting products made with integrity, manufactured responsibly, and that last a long time is something we are proud of most.
However, the issue with these products is that sometimes the cost to the consumer is too high. This is why we have partnered with residents and non-profits locally to donate good working and gently used appliances that we find, to people that might not have access to new appliances.
Although we recycle the appliances we take away from homes, this practice allows a complete upcycle of an old product, which prolongs its life and keeps more products out of landfills.
