Barley’s Homebrewing Supplies

At Barley’s Homebrewing Supplies, located in New Westminster, you’ll find an impressive assortment of ingredients and equipment for home-fermentation projects. They pride themselves in their knowledge and selection when it comes to beer-making but you’ll also find supplies for wine, mead, seltzer, soda, cider, cheese, kombucha, kefir and more. Established in 2013, Barley’s has developed a stellar reputation as the place to go for homebrewing supplies in the lower mainland. Plus, if you’re thirsty, you can also grab a cup or growler fill of hop infused kombucha, which is made in-house!

Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?

Answer: Many of the ingredients that Barley’s carries are grown right here in BC, including malt from Gambrinus Malting and hops from Topp’s Hops, grown in Abbotsford. They are also a proud supplier of equipment manufactured by the Vintage Shop in Delta.

Over its 12-year history, Barley’s has collaborated with several local craft breweries to organize events and competitions; Breweries such as Parallel 49, Central City, Powell, Four Winds, Steel and Oak, Another Beer Co., Moody Ales, MarinerDageraad, Bomber and Yellow Dog. These collaborations drive business to the breweries, while fostering the homebrewing community.

Question: What social and environmental practices are you proud of?

Over the years, Barley’s has donated thousands of dollars towards a scholarship for students in the KPUs Brewing and Brewery Operations program. Barley’s has also partnered with the program for events such as homebrewing info sessions and a collaboration brew at the KPU brewery facility.

Curtis, Owner of Barley’s, is also a founding member of The Sapperton Business Collective, a newly established non-profit society supporting business and community in the Sapperton neighbourhood of New Westminster.

To help reduce plastic waste, Barley’s offers incentives such as returning malt extract containers for a deposit and waiving the milling fee for customers who bring in their own bags or containers for milled grain.
