Lawlor Goldsmith Shoppe Ltd.

When her father, Patrick Lawlor, decided to retire from the jewelry business in 2010, Janice Lawlor-Cooper purchased his jewelry service department.

Lawlor Goldsmith Shoppe evolved and the store now carries a wide selection of fine jewelry brands. Specializing in diamonds, gold, silver, pearls and gemstones, customers can find distinct pieces at all price points.

Custom design and repair are among the services that can be found only within an independent business such as Lawlor’s. Bring in your custom design ideas and look at our gallery to see how your little worn pieces can be transformed into fresh and beautiful works of wearable art. Expert repairs are provided and complementary cleaning and inspection is available.

There is on street parking and two additional customer spots at the back of the shop. Wheelchair accessible and pet friendly, the shop is loved by its customers – having won the 2016 Delta Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award, and the Delta Optimist’s Readers’ Choice Award 8 years in a row.

Question: How are you supporting other local businesses?
Answer: Lawlor Goldsmith Shoppe works with about 30 vendors, including Canadian owned or operated businesses. We prefer to source Lawlor Goldsmith Shoppelocally and buy 95% of our stock from local businesses – 40% from B.C.-based companies, 55% from Canadian companies and 5% from other areas. Occasionally we need to purchase inventory from the United States, but this is rare. Almost all (90%) of our service suppliers are B.C.-based, including our accounting, coaching, construction, consulting, IT, management consulting, media, technology and other services. Our Point of Sale program is US owned/operated because it’s the best jewelry point of sale program that I could find and is adapted to accommodate its Canadian customers.

Question: What social practices are you proud of?
Answer: We are passionate supporters of Women Helping Women and serve as a drop off and collection point for this organization. The Delta Hospital Auxiliary’s Thrift Store holds a monthly Collectibles Sale and we regularly help them to prepare donated jewelry for this event. More recently, we made the decision to offer an Estate section, from which we donate 10% of the proceeds to the Delta Hospice Society.  We also support the events sponsored by the Ladner Business Association, such as the Tree Lighting Festival, Breakfast with Santa, and the Quilt Walk and Car Show.  We are also a member of the Delta Chamber of Commerce.

Question: What environmental practices are you proud of?
Answer: We take care to recycle all batteries taken out of watches in for repair and are conscious of limiting the amount of chemicals used for jewelry cleaning and repairs. Jewelry is recycled and repurposed in the following ways at Lawlor Goldsmith Shoppe: broken and unwanted gold is purchased by us and sent to be refined; we aid customers in the exciting process of redesigning their old jewelry and turning it into new and desirable pieces – a beautiful way of recycling; and lastly, our popular and exciting Estate section serves to match happy new owners with used but lovely pieces.
